COCHRAN CENTER, which is part of Dakota County Receiving Center, Inc. located in Hastings, Minnesota on the scenic grounds of the Minnesota Veteran's Home campus, is a 12-bed extended care facility which provides long-term residential treatment services within a structured living environment for men 18 years and older. This program is ideal for the severely chemically dependent individual who has had prior treatment experiences. Program components are grounded in teaching relapse prevention strategies, developing abstinent living skills and becoming self-sufficient. Cochran Center serves a wide range of individuals, many of whom have diagnoses for behavioral health issues. All receive chemical dependency therapeutic services from our Licensed Counselors. We work closely with community/managed care resources to provide support, case management and medication management to our mutual clients. Cochran Center is licensed by the State of Minnesota, Department of Human Services and the Minnesota Department of Health. OrientationOrientation will introduce the client to the Cochran Center facility and services. We believe abstinence from all mood altering chemicals is the most logical road to recovery. Our program is designed to assist in efforts to develop a chemical free lifestyle to support recovery. We believe there are life issues which impact on an individual's long term recovery. We address these issues with a treatment plan, medical history, vocational/educational, spiritual needs and the client's own input, using the six dimensions of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). Cochran Center is designed on a concept of cooperative living with a need for self-discipline and responsibility. During this time, the client will be assigned an individual counselor, attend daily therapy groups, weekly lectures and be integrated into the Cochran community. ProgramAfter Orientation, clients continue involvement in program group twice a week; are encouraged to attend a support system and develop ongoing sober relationships. Clients are assisted in finding part-time employment 21 days after admission and may go to full-time employment in their last 30 days of admission, using many employment contacts established through Cochran Center. A nurse is available to assist the client in working on medical/dental issues. Clients are involved in weekly social and leisure activities, which are a vital part in developing a chemical free lifestyle. Clients are seen individually by their counselor on a weekly basis and are also involved in a counselor-facilitated group at least twice a week. Groups focus on relapse prevention and cognitive living skills. The final focus of the program is to prepare clients for the transition to independent living and a lifestyle free of chemical use problems. SPECIAL SERVICES
